Kel-Suu lies deep in the border zone of the At-Bashy district, a full day of off-road driving from the nearest town. A permit is required, which we arrange in advance. The lake fills a narrow canyon of vertical rock, and on calm days its water is a colour that photos never quite capture.

Don't miss

  • One of the most remote lakes in Central Asia
  • Off-road drive through the Kok-Kiya valley
  • Yurt camp with herders in the border zone
